Dr. Hall's educational and professional career have taken him across the country. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, he began his undergraduate degree at the University of Utah under Lori Wike before transferring and finishing at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music to study with William Winstead and Martin James. Dr. Hall went on to complete his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in bassoon performance at the University of Maryland where he studies with Sue Heineman, Eric Heckshire, and Fei Xie.
Dr. Hall has performed with professional groups all over the United States including the Hawaii Symphony in Oahu, Hawaii as Associate Principal/Second Bassoon and as a frequent substitute on bassoon and contrabassoon with the Utah Symphony | Utah Opera. An avid proponent of chamber music, Dr. Hall has considered himself lucky to have been included in numerous ensembles including a long stint in the Potomac Wind Quintet. Dr. Hall currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah where he teaches his private bassoon studio and is a professional freelance bassoonist and contrabassoonist in the area.
Dr. Hall took a brief break in performing to pursue Brass and Woodwind Instrument Repair, completing the Band Instrument Repair Program at Minnesota State College Southeast, Red Wing. He has since opened RHK Repair as a professional woodwind repair technician with a specialty in double reeds and as a machinist. He enjoys designing and manufacturing specialty tools and custom parts for repair technicians and musicians alike.
